Easter

I know it is late, but I am finally going to post the pictures from Easter. We had a great Easter this year. We always try to gift them the things that they need for church. Miranda and Hayden got new outfits. Joey got new Sunday shoes and a tie clip. Charissa go new Sunday shoes and a new scripture bag (her old one fell apart). We also decided this year to skip the candy and fill their baskets (bowls) with fruit instead. they loved it just as much as candy and got to eat it right away instead of waiting until after breakfast and Mom's okay.

Even with all this fun stuff, I am grateful that the kid's favorite part of Easter is always the resurrection eggs. Several years ago, we bought a package of plastic eggs that contain little objects that symbolize the different parts of the Saviors last days on Earth. We leave them out for the Easter bunny to hide (along with our dyed eggs) and when we find them all, we tell the story. They love reviewing it every year.

One of my favorite parts of Easter this year was our primary sharing time. We had the room set up like a court room. Jeff was dressed as a judge. He welcomed everyone and explained what a judge is and what a witness is. Then he told the children that we were going to have some special witnesses come and testify of Jesus Christ. It would be up to the children to judge for themselves whether or not what they say is true. Then we had Mary Magdalene, Peter, Doubting Thomas, Joseph Smith, and Nephi the disciple (from 3rd Nephi) come and share their testimonies. The kids really got into it and it was almost as if those people had actually arranged to make it into our primary to share their stories. It was great.

  1. I love your fruit basket idea!! I am going to do that next year! I am tired of having too much candy in our house, and they love fruit too!
Also, I really want to do your eggs with the symbols of Easter. Could you email me what is in the eggs, so I can make that. I have been looking for a good Easter tradition, and haven't found anything I really like yet. Every Easter has been different for us, because I keep trying, but nothing seems to keep with the spirit of Easter. That would be great! Thanks!

  2. I love your tradition of giving the kids stuff for church, and I can't believe you pulled off the fruit thing! I meant to do the Resurrection eggs this year, but didn't think about it till too late. Definitely next year.

  3. We found our resurrection eggs at a store (Walmart I think) but I am sure you could make your own. There are a dozen plastic eggs of various colors. 1: small plastic donkey-Jesus' Triumphal Entry; 2: three silver coins-Judas' blood money; 3: Passover Cup- last supper; 4: Praying Hands-The Garden of Gethsemane; 5: Small strip of leather-whip for trial and lashes 6: crown of Thorns- Mocking of Jesus; 7:Nails in the form of a cross- Crucifixion; 8:Dice- Gambling for Jesus' Robe; 9: Spear- Piercing Side; 10: piece of linen- burial; 11: Rock- Stone rolled away; 12: Empty- Resurrection. Ours came with a booklet that explains everything, but we usually just discuss them. In the back of the booklet it gives other suggestions for symbols: Palm branch-triumphal entry; small piece of soap-washing of feet; Rooster-Peter's denial; Rope- the arrest; Purple cloth-trial; Soldiers-at the cross; Inside of egg painted black- Darkness from noon to 3 (three days of darkness in America); Spices- burial; Angel- resurrection. You could use any of these or come up with your own. Let me know how it goes.
